Q. Is Israel safe?

Security

Israel is generally a very safe place to travel and violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. We are regularly in touch with Israeli security advisors. If we are advised that Israel becomes an unsafe place to travel to we will be sure to alert attendees immediately.

Q. Do I need a passport or visa?

Passports

It is important to check that your passports expiration date is at least 6 months prior to departure.

Visas

Visitors from most English-speaking countries will receive a visa for Israel upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport if you say you are entering Israel for tourism. It is also important to have the ticket out of the country as sometimes they will ask to show proof that you are leaving the country.

Citizens of Western Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand are issued visas good for up to 3 months upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport.

For security reasons, visitors whose passports indicate extensive travel to countries that are politically unstable or technically at war with Israel (such as Iran, Sudan, Afghanistan, or Lebanon) may be taken aside for questioning upon arrival in Israel, and in some cases denied entrance.

Q. Is there WiFi Access?

Phone and Internet Access

WiFi - We will have WiFi at the event venue. There is free WiFi at Ben Gurion Airport.

Mobile -  You can purchase a SIM at the airport for use while traveling in Israel. Please note that many phones purchased in the United States are locked to a particular carrier. If you intend to use an Israeli SIM card, make sure that your phone is unlocked. If unlocking your phone is not possible, most carriers offer international plans as well. Most carriers also have an international plan. Those must be set up prior to traveling to avoid heavy fees.

Q. Should I exchange money for Israel?

Money

The official currency of Israel is the Israeli Shekel (NIS). The most convenient and cheapest way to obtain local currency in Israel is via ATMs, which are readily available in Israel (look for ATMs adorned with international flag decals that accept foreign debit cards) or through currency exchanges. Major credit card companies are also accepted in most places in Israel.

At Ben Gurion you can easily find ATMs and currency exchange places near the baggage claim.

Q. Do you tip in Israel?

It is customary to tip at least 10% in Israel in restaurants.
